Hilda Jieve

What an amazing Edwardian portrait. This is my Aunt Hilda, professionally photographed around 1910. Another (unmarked) photograph from the same portrait session has turned up, so it looks like they took a few and then decided which to enlarge for a mounted portrait. She seems to be holding a copy of one of the many artistic magazines published before WW1.
It was difficult to make out the photographer, we knew it was taken in Grantham but couldn’t be certain of the signature. Remarkably I found a wedding photo of an unknown couple at a flea market a couple of weeks ago by the same photographer, and this had his details on the back – Walter Lee.
I don’t remember meeting Hilda until sometime in the 1960s, by which time she was quite an elderly lady. Nor do we know too much of her life before she married William Audas in 1943; she was his second wife.

When Hilda died, my Aunt helped sort the property out and rescued a pile of photographs from the Jieve’s family, some of which I will get scanned. My Aunt managed to identify some of the photos, but others remain a mystery.  Hilda’s parents are on a two carte de visites on the site from the 1890s.
