In recent years I have made an attempt to properly sort the many family photographs which have been passed down and work on adding data to an online family tree. The photographs date back to the late 1800s. I guess it’s something which becomes more fascinating the older one gets, but it is quite strange to find family tree notes written by relatives some eighty years ago. While some photographs are of interest only to family members, others have a wider social interest, so I will add a few to this site.
And it’s certainly not every family which finds images like this in the albums! This is my Great Uncle, who was born in Hull and became a dentist there. But his passion was ornithology, and when he saw this nest of a Red Throated Diver in a Scottish loch, had to swim out – naked – to take a better look. It was taken around 1905.
