Barkers of Great Yarmouth

barkers of great yarmouth

When I first started researching Walking Pictures properly, one of the first people I contacted was Paul Godfrey, having seen his website devoted to the history of Great Yarmouth. Since then we have shared information and Paul has helped with identifying images and cameras. He has prepared a history of J. Barker & Sons Ltd. for us. Barkers (and their sister firm Cine Snaps) carried on the walking picture trade in Great Yarmouth (and other towns) for over fifty years, which would seem to make them the longest walkie operator in the UK by some margin.
The article has been split into four sections, Barkers Part One begins the story in the 1920s. Above we have three variants on the famous Barkers photo wallets which accompanied all their later walkie prints.
